Footy for Life aims to create a sense of belonging to the community by delivering an event that celebrates the physical and mental wellbeing achieved by playing Footy. 

Footy is a lifeline. It defines us as Australians. It’s at the core of our being, in our psyche.

As a social enterprise, Footy For Life is purpose is to help people reconnect with each other, with the community. It gives us a reason to celebrate the joy, fun, sense of physical and mental wellbeing participating in footy can achieve.

It’s our way to give back and fundraise for worthy causes supporting better mental health and suicide prevention outcomes for all in our community.

EX-AFL ALLSTARS: TEAM ONE –

THE CRUSADERS

CAPTAIN: BEN COUSINS

As one of Western Australians most decorated footy players and beloved sons Ben Cousins has shown his community that by recalibrating life’s learned lessons (albeit highs and lows), that a dogged ‘such is life’ resilient attitude can give you a second chance at life. 

Ben is listed by journalist Mike Sheahan as one of the fifty greatest players of all time. 

During Ben’s 12-year career with West Coast, he won several of the league’s highest individual awards, including a Brownlow Medal, Most Valuable Player, and a premiership medallion.

Ben was also selected six times in the All-Australian Team and represented Australia in the International Rules Series. 

Ben was West Coast’s club champion for four seasons and captain for five seasons.

Ben played 238 games for West Coast and finished his AFL career at Richmond, playing a further 32 games.

In May 2021 Ben returned to the footy field playing for the Queens Park Bulldogs in the Perth Metro Football League.

EX-AFL ALLSTARS: TEAM TWO

THE SPARTANS

CAPTAIN: DES HEADLAND

3 time Indigenous All Star, Des Headland epitomises what it means to be a proud Noongar / Yamatji indigenous man whose passion for life and physical well-being enabled him to play 166 games in a stellar career for both Brisbane Lions and the almighty Fremantle Dockers.

Des was renowned as a half-forward flanker / midfielder and his awesome skill capability saw him selected as the first overall draft pick in the 1998 AFL draft by the Brisbane Lions and later was part of the successful premiership Brisbane Lions 2002 team. 

In the lead up to the 2003 AFL season Headland was chosen in an ATSIC Chairman’s All-Star team that played Carlton at Marrara Oval, Darwin. The All-Star team defeated Carlton by 73 points with Headland adjudged by The Age as best on ground. 

After retiring from Fremantle in 2010. Headland re-joined his former WAFL team Subiaco for the 2011 WAFL season. 

Headland is one of football’s most prominent Aboriginal voices, was voted as as the inaugural chairman of the Indigenous Players Alliance (2017) where he continues to advocate on behalf of Indigenous men and women who have played in the AFL and AFLW.

Des continues to give back to footy where he is still involved in grassroots football playing and coaching

12:30 pm-1: 30 pm -Public kick to kick on oval.

1:30 pm -2 pm Women’s Club of Origin team warm up.

2 pm-3:30 pm Women’s Club of Origin match.

3:30 pm-4 pm Women’s medal presentation / Men’s Club of Origin warm up.

4 pm-5.30 pm Men’s Club of Origin match.

5.30 pm– 6.00 pm Men’s medal presentation.

6.00 pm  – 6.30 pm Welcome to country / Smoking Ceremony / Stand Together and VIP – Sponsors acknowledgment  

6:30 pm-8:55 pm AFL Allstars Game  includes 1/ 2 time Little Allstars half-time match (7:25pm-7:50pm)

8:55 pm -9:45 pm AFL Allstars medal presentation and event close out.
